About the Company
OrbitAID Aerospace is building the foundation for a new era of on-orbit servicing and refueling, enabling satellites to operate longer, maneuver more freely, and deliver greater value in space. At the core of this vision is the development of standardized docking and refueling technologies and a future network of orbital fuel stations, transforming how spacecraft are designed, launched, and sustained in orbit.
Our long-term goal is to make space operations more flexible, resilient, and sustainable—where satellites are serviced, upgraded, and refueled rather than replaced. We are a small, driven team that values strong engineering fundamentals, ownership, and hands-on problem solving. At OrbitAID, you’ll work closely across disciplines, move quickly from concept to hardware and software, and contribute directly to building the space infrastructure that will power the next generation of missions.
Role Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of satellite mechanical hardware. This role involves developing flight-ready components and structures, performing structural analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable and manufacturable spacecraft systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop 3D CAD models of satellite structures, mechanisms, and mechanical subsystems using industry-standard CAD tools
- Create detailed 2D engineering drawings following mechanical drafting and GD&T standards
- Perform structural simulations (static, modal, vibration, and thermal) using ANSYS or equivalent FEA tools
- Interpret analysis results and implement design improvements to meet mission and structural requirements
- Work closely with manufacturing, integration, and test teams to optimize designs for fabrication, assembly, and verification
- Support prototype development, hardware integration, and mechanical testing activities
- Document design iterations, analysis reports, and engineering reviews throughout the development lifecycle
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical design and preparation of engineering drawings
- Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD tool (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of structural mechanics and mechanical design principles
Preferred / Highly Desired Skills
- Experience performing FEA simulations using ANSYS or equivalent tools
- Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
- Experience with aerospace, satellite, or space systems projects
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with hardware development, prototyping, or structural testing
- Exposure to vibration, thermal, or environmental testing methods
- Experience with CubeSats, space hardware, or aerospace competitions
- Strong interest in space systems and NewSpace missions
